INHERITANCE: Abuja Septuagenarian Retiree in Child Adoption Mess.

In what can be referred to as a dramatic turn of things, an Abuja based  octogenarian retiree,  Alhaji Sule Usman has been accused of undue manipulation aimed at taking custody of his late wife’s adopted child, Khadizat Suleiman in order to sell off property worth over N100 million  willed to her.

Alhaji Usman, a native of Okpo in Kogi state, who currently lives in Kubwa one of the satellite towns in the Nigeria capital Abuja, is said to have married the late Hajia Salamatu  Sule for almost 12 years, before the woman died without a biological child, except the adopted girl child.

The younger sister of the late woman, Aisha Ameh who took the child adoption case to Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Child Welfare Unit, said her late sister’s husband was never in support of the adoption and had never accepted the child while the woman was alive.

Ameh noted that the man who has four other wives with many children, opposed the child adoption idea by her late sister,  claiming that his Islamic faith does not support it.

Aisha Ameh added that the man who is still a moslem, all of a sudden developed interest in the child, this they suspect that he is doing that because he wants to take over everything willed to the adopted child and transfer same to other children by his other wives.

She further accused the man of physically and emotionally abusing the 6 years little girl since he Usman forcefully collected the child from her after the death of her late sister.

According to her, though an FCT Area Court has granted the custody of the child to the man, after his subtle moves for re-adoption failed. She alleged that the life of the child was in danger, as the other children of the man do not see the adopted child as a member of the family, this is a major concern to the other relatives of the late woman.

Aisha Ameh used the medium to call on government to quickly take over the late woman’s properties valued at over N100 Million, and keep same in trustee for the child pending when she can administer those properties by herself.

In her words, ” Please, and please, I’m appealing to Nigerians, though judgement has been given, we don’t have power but we solicit for the help of Nigerians and the Nigerian government to please come to the rescue of the little child and all that my sister has laboured for because,  if those things are left in the hands of those people that hated her, she will end up getting nothing of her own that the mother has willed to her before she died. she will be a loser. I’m appealing, please, please, come and rescue this little child” , she said.

Meanwhile, the accused man has debunked the claims that he opposed the adoption of the child, stating that he actually supported his late wife and welcomed her into his family.

The man who responded via the document he submitted to the court, said he has taken custody of the child to adequately care for her, while also ensuring that the property left by his late wife for the child was preserved.

NASS Passes ₦54.99trn 2025 Budget

The National Assembly on Thursday passed the ₦54.99trn 2025 Appropriation Bill.

The bill was passed separately by the Senate and the House of Representatives.

A breakdown of the budget showed N3.645trn for statutory transfers, N14.317trn for debt servicing, N13.64trn for recurrent expenditure and N23.963trn capital expenditure (development fund), with fiscal deficit put at N13.08trn.

The Deficit-to-Gross domestic product (GDP) Ratio was put at 1.52%.

Last Week, President Bola Tinubu increased the 2025 fiscal year budget from an initial N49.7trn to N54.2trn, seeking approval from the Senate and the House of Representatives.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, Abubakar Bichi, while presenting the bill for consideration, stated that the committee met with the Presidential Economic Planning team to further discuss revenue projections and expenditure for the 2025 Appropriation Bill.

According to him, the 2025 Appropriation Bill was presented late, compared to that of 2024.

He urged the executive to present subsequent budgets to the National Assembly not later than three months before the next financial year, to maintain the January to December budget cycle.

Court Sacks APC Governorship Candidate In Bayelsa

The Federal High Court, Abuja, has disqualified the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva, from contesting the November 11 Guber election in Bayelsa state.

The suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/821/2023 was filed on June 13, 2023, by Deme Kolomo, a member of the APC.

Justice Donatus Okorowo ruled that Sylva, having been sworn in twice and ruled for five years as governor of the state, would breach the 1999 constitution as amended if allowed to contest again.

The judge also declared that Sylva was not qualified to run in the November poll because if he wins and is sworn in, he would spend more than eight years in office as governor

Citing the case of Marwa vs Nyako at the Supreme Court, Okorowo noted that the drafters of the country’s constitution stated that nobody should be voted for as governor more than two times and that the parties to the suit agreed that Sylva was voted into office two times.

He further stated that the Supreme Court ruled in the case of Marwa vs Nyako that nobody can expand the constitution or its scope, stressing that if Sylva was allowed to contest the next election, a person could compete as many times as he wanted.

Senate stops El-Rufai, 2 Others Confirms Wike, Keyamo, Oyetola, Others As Ministers

The Senate has put the confirmation of former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai on hold and confirmed 45 ministerial nominees presented to it for screening and confirmation by President Bola Tinubu.

Two others affected are Stella Okotete (Delta State), and Abubakar Danladi (Taraba State). The Senate said the trio were still undergoing security clearance.

The Senate had spent a week in screening all the ministerial nominees presented to it by the president.
